Getting a residency permit (Carte de Séjour)
First of all, cases in which you should NOT need to apply for a carte de séjour (residency permit)
-You are a citizen of the EU, of the European Economic Community, or of Switzerland Or, as a non-EU-/CEE- or Swiss citizen, your visa states that you do not need a carte de séjour: “dispensé de carte de séjour”
How to apply for carte de séjour
Your application will be processed by the Sciences Po carte de séjour service located at 9 rue de la Chaise, ground floor, (building C). They are open on Tuesday and on Thursday from 14:00 to 17:30, between January the 26th and February the 25th . Do not miss it !
To complete your application, go to the carte de séjour service with the following documents:
(always bring the original and 1 copy except for photo and envelope):
-Valid passport with ID page and your visa
-Birth certificate
-Proof of residence in your name, (contract, electricity or telephone bill, official certificate..)
-A rental contract signed and sealed by an estate agency (and not a contract signed by a landlord)
-A “certificat de scolarité” of Sciences Po in order to confirm your student status (to be downloaded on the Sciences Po website: https://scolarite.sciences-po.fr/ (after login, click on “accueil administratif”, then “visa étudiant” at the bottom of the page)
-Proof of sufficient resources (confirmation of scholarship, bank statement, confirmation of
responsibility signed by guarantor, proof of personal revenue, with a monthly income of
minimum 450 euros)
-3 recent passport photos, head uncovered
-An envelope (format 17x25cm) with stamps for 4,35€ and a registered mail form (“formulaire de recommandé”)
Beware, new procedure
Some French consulates can now deliver a new type of visa which includes a residency permit (carte de séjour). In this case, you’ll have to withdraw instructions of the Consulate at Sciences Po Carte de Séjour office to know the documents you’ll have to provide.
